The Rangers came back from the lockout with the hopes of a fresh start. The first three seasons did just that. They showed an improving team that was made from no-namers and the Rangers own system, and a gamble on Jaromir Jagr.
They appeared to have learned their lesson of going out and buying high price stars wasn't the way to win.
This all changed at the end of the 2007-2008 season when Shanahan, Straka, Jagr, Avery were all let go for the purpose of rebuilding.
