At a time when all focus should be on the exciting NBA Playoffs, it is interesting that fans and the media alike seem to have one eye focused on the current playoffs and the other on an event that is still 14 months away.

It used to be that when teams made trades, the number one purpose was to make your current team better.  While some teams, like the Orlando Magic with their mid-season trade for point guard Rafer Alston, made deals this season designed to make a run at the 2009 NBA title, many other teams have been making trades with more of an eye toward the summer of 2010.
