If the Warriors had voided the contract, the league would have never accepted it because Ellis had already been suspended and fined by his team for his actions.
There were even members of the bay area media that questioned if whether Ellis wanted to remain a Warrior or not. This is based on the chance that his contract could be terminated if he didn't perform well.
Too me, the issue itself was never a big deal. There was no way that Ellis would have his contract terminated by the team.
