They had Yao Ming, who brings his A-game every single year. They had a new man—Ron Artest. Artest can bring defense, physicality, and score when need be.
For many, those expectations dropped fast when McGrady got hurt, and was told he would be out for the rest of the season. That was a shame too, because the Rockets were playing great basketball.
Then during the trade deadline, they traded away Rafer Alston to the Magic. And it looked like that was the nail in the coffin for the Rockets to make a serious push to contend for the finals.
