The 12-year NBA veteran from the University of Oklahoma was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, which is also known as cancer in the knee in 2007. The initial round of chemotherapy did not help the cancer any and in August of 2008 he had to have part of his right leg amputated.
Life was far from a frown for Wayman Tisdale, however. His accomplished basketball career shined at Oklahoma, where he got to play with his brother. He won a gold medal under Bobby Knight for the 1984 US Olympic Basketball team. He was the second overall pick in the 1985 NBA Draft to the Indiana Pacers.
