NATIONALS DEFEAT PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES 8-2 FOR FIRST WIN OF 2009

THE RESULT: The Washington Nationals got home runs from Adam Dunn, Josh Willingham, Elijah Dukes and even Alberto Gonzalez en route to an 8-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies before an announced crowd of 20,494 at Nationals Park.

Winning pitcher Shairon Martis went 6.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits and two walks with one strikeout. Martis, the 22-year old rookie, delivered a solid performance, keeping the Phillies off-balance with an assortment of off-speed pitches.

Michael Hinckley, Joe Beimel and Joel Hanrahan went 2.2 hitless innings with no walks and two strikeouts.
