So Why Can’t the Atlanta Braves Still Trade for Jake Peavy?

Before the season, Braves general manager Frank Wren was tasked with rebuilding the pitching staff.

For about a month, he was negotiating with an equally stubborn GM: the Padres' Kevin Towers.  The player in question was Cy Young winner Jake Peavy.

Last month Peavy vetoed a trade that would have sent him to the Chicago White Sox, since he has a no-trade clause.  Those close to Peavy have said on numerous occasions that he would prefer to pitch in the National League, thus the veto.  This limits the Padres ability to shop him around the league.
