Jarrod Washburn appears to have reinvented himself after going 23-43 with a 4.55 ERA in his first three years in Seattle. The 34-year-old lefty improved to 3-0 after striking out nine Tampa Bay hitters over seven innings, allowing just one run in the process.
Opponents are hitting just .184 against Washburn, who has a 1.71 ERA and 0.86 WHIP.
Mike Sweeney went 3-for-3 with an RBI single in the first and Rob Johnson hit a two-run triple in the fourth before he was tripled in by Yuniesky Betancourt.
