White Sox Take LSU Outfielder Mitchell in First Round

Jared Mitchell, a two-sport athlete at Louisiana State University, has been selected by the Chicago White Sox as the 23rd pick in the first round of the 2009 Major League Baseball amateur draft.

Mitchell is the first LSU ballplayer to be drafted in the first round of the MLB draft since Aaron Hill was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2003.

As an outfielder for the LSU Tigers, Mitchell batted .325 in 201 at-bats with an on-base percentage of .471 on the 2009 season. Mitchell walked 52 times, struck out 62 times, and stole 35 bases out of 44 attempts.

The 6'0", 192 lb. Mitchell was considered to be the most athletic college player available in the draft. He is a wide receiver for the LSU Tigers football...
