There are two misconceptions when regarding the NBA's shooting guard and small forward positions.
The first is that they're interchangeable.
The second is that they're not.
One view is that guards are meant to be quick, athletic, and able to shoot anywhere, and at anytime. They're meant to dunk, slash, crash, and defend.
Small forwards, on the other hand, can do some of those things, but are like another aggressive, yet quicker and more athletic power forward.
Both outlooks are right and wrong.
The fact is, depending on the team, the coach, and the GM, one or the other could be the correct assumption.
