Four years ago, the Penguins won only 22 games in the whole season. Three years after the horrendous '05-'06 season, they reached the Stanley Cup Finals, losing to Detroit, 4-2.
How did they turn it around? How could a team so bad on all fronts become Stanley Cup contenders?
The simple answer is the youth movement.
They found a great leader in Sidney Crosby. His rookie season blew everyone away, and with good reason. He had 39 goals, 63 assists, and 102 points.
