John Tortorella knows he needs to do something. Over the past two games, the offense he has tried so hard to get going and his New York Rangers has completely stalled. They have been able to score only one goal in two games against an unheralded rookie netminder.
Two nights ago the Rangers embarrassed themselves. They watched the Capitals skate circles around them. Their only response was to take penalties in frustration. To nobody’s surprise, the leader in this effort was an outrageously undisciplined Sean Avery.
